App title: Twitter
What is it? The WP official Twitter app
Why we love it? This isn’t a new app, of course; the native Twitter client for Windows Phones has been out for ages. This update, though, is a nice one; amongst other tweaks, it now comes with new notification options (you can get alerted when your favourite twitter users have something to say), better Lockscreen options (interesting tweets on your home screen), and, our favourite adjustment, it’s got a new look — as well as the light interface, it’s now got a dark background option, which we think looks very classy indeed. Other Twitter clients might be more feature-laden, but for casual or unfussy users, this is a lovely place to start.
Who it’s perfect for: tweeters

App title: Shopper
What is it? A mobile shopping list
Why we love it? It’s very simple! Add items to your shopping list and bin ‘em when you’re done. It also lets you easily calculate discounts, so when the in-store sticker says 20% off a £17.99 item, you can input the data in-app to get the real price – saves you ducking out to load a separate calculator. Handy! Plus it’s a free, ad-free app, which is a nice bonus.
Who it’s perfect for: shoppers (naturally)

App title: Amazing Weather HD
What is it? A weather forecast app
Why we love it? Plenty of perfectly good apps can tell you it’s going to rain, but this one does it in style. The home screen gives you the basics — temperature, humidity, etc — with a fancy background image. Tap on individual days to get more detailed info and a handy chart. The main selling point of the latest version is the new and improve Lockscreen support, which is a brilliant way to take advantage of the truly stunning imagery.
Who it’s perfect for: cautious rainwatchers

App title: Tapatalk
What is it? An app that allows you to participate in certain online forums by making the forum interface easier to use on your phone
Why we love it? It’s a dead convenient service, and it lets you access your favourite forum sites from within the app, saving the bother of navigating through your browser — but more than that, the newest installation of Tapatalk for WP is faster, has better configuration settings, and lets you pick between a dark and a light theme. It’s also smoother than ever before, as the developers have responded to a lot of user feedback about bugs.
Who it’s perfect for: heavy forum users who want a more streamlined reading experience.

App title: Glance Background beta
What is it? A Lumia exclusive update to the new Amber Glance function.
Why we love it? This is still in Beta, so don’t expect a glitch-free experience — but if your phone has already gotten the GDR2 (Amber) update this is a nice added extra. The Glance Screen as it currently stand allows you to see the time when your phone’s on standby, so you don’t have to fire it up to see if you’re late. The selling point is that it saves on battery power. Glance Background, then, lets you add up to four photos in the background of the Glance Screen — simple, sure, but it looks great and it still doesn’t run down your battery life.
Who it’s perfect for: Nokia Lumia users who want the full Amber experience.

This week’s selection all add a big dollop of convenience to our lives, but what about any others we might have missed. Let us know about them in the comments below
